How effective are whitening toothpastes?
It should be noted that not all shades of teeth whiten equally well. You will be able to notice a truly noticeable visible “before and after” effect only if the enamel of your teeth initially has a yellowish tint. Teeth of gray and brownish tones will simply be impossible to whiten with toothpastes (we are talking specifically about the brown tint of the enamel, and not about the brown pigment deposit on its surface). In this case, only professional whitening, for example, using the Zoom method, can help.
If you need the most effective whitening toothpaste, reviews say that the maximum whitening effect that you can achieve using toothpastes is 2 shades on the VITA scale (Fig. 2-3). The best effect can be achieved by whitening toothpaste with carbamide peroxide, but you should not trust advertising that says that any toothpaste can whiten your teeth by 3-4 or more tones (shades). This is simply impossible.
Teeth shades according to VITA scale –
If pastes with carbamide peroxide are considered the most effective, then how effective is an abrasive whitening paste - reviews say that such pastes allow you to lighten teeth by an average of 1 tone on the VITA scale. To get a more significant result, it is advisable to combine pastes, for example, use an abrasive bleaching paste for the 1st month, and use a paste with carbamide peroxide for the next 2 months.
Best whitening toothpaste: ranking 2022
We present the rating: The best whitening toothpaste 2022, compiled by the editor-in-chief of 24stoma.ru (a dentist with 19 years of experience). The rating is based on an analysis of the components of toothpastes, personal experience with use, publicly available data on the concentrations of active components and the abrasiveness coefficient (RDA) of each paste.
We have compiled 2 ratings separately. The first rating of whitening toothpastes is dedicated to pastes that work by chemically whitening tooth enamel (this group is the most effective, but the smallest in number). The second rating will be devoted to abrasive whitening toothpastes that work by mechanically removing contaminants from the surface of the enamel.
Important components of whitening toothpastes -
Whitening toothpaste (in addition to abrasive-polishing components and/or carbamide peroxide) may contain additional beneficial components that will increase its effectiveness. Some of these components help remove existing pigmentations, while others will prevent the deposition of pigments and plaque on the teeth (24stoma.ru).
- The enzymes Bromelain and Papain are proteolytic enzymes that help loosen the already formed tightly attached microbial plaque, which certainly contributes to its removal by the abrasive components of toothpastes. This happens due to the fact that enzymes destroy the protein matrix of dental plaque (i.e., intercellular structures). Bromelain is obtained from pineapple, and papain is obtained from papaya.
- Pyrophosphates and Polydon - these components are inhibitors of the crystallization of calcium phosphate (this is a mineral component of tartar). Thus, they prevent the formation of tartar, but do not affect existing tartar. By the way, citrates have a similar effect to pyrophosphates - these are salts of citric acid, which can also sometimes be found in toothpastes (usually sodium citrate is used for this).
- Polyphosphates - polyphosphates include, for example, Sodium Hexametaphosphate and Trisodium Phosphate. These are excellent components that prevent pigments and plaque from sticking to the teeth and, accordingly, they help prevent the formation of tartar (but they do not affect existing plaque). Polyphosphates are found in some whitening toothpastes “President”, “Lacalut”, as well as in the “Blend-a-med Pro-EXPERT” series of toothpastes.
- Hydroxyapatite – the deposition of a thin layer of hydroxyapatite particles on the teeth will prevent bacteria from attaching to the tooth enamel, and hence the formation of plaque.
Composition of President toothpaste
It should be noted that different product lines differ in composition and spectrum of action. Among the components used in branded drugs are:
- Papain enzyme. The substance effectively eliminates bacterial plaque on the surface of teeth and prevents the formation of tartar. The enzyme breaks down bacterial deposits and removes them from the enamel.
- Silica. Acts as an abrasive in President pastes. The substance has a gentle effect on the enamel without damaging it.
- Xylitol. Normalizes the microflora of the mouth, which is especially important in the development of dental disorders.
- Plant components: thyme, propolis, anise oil, mint, lemon balm, Icelandic moss. Natural components help minimize inflammatory processes in the mouth. They also prevent numerous oral diseases.
- Natural antiseptics – green tea oil. The ingredient is included in the Pure by PresiDent toothpaste, available in green packaging.
- Vitamins B, E and C.
- Calcium in an easily digestible form.
- Synthetic antiseptics - hexetidine, triclosan.
- The component for remineralization of teeth is hydroxyapatate.
The best whitening toothpaste for smokers –
As a dentist, I can tell you about an alternative whitening option that is especially suitable for smokers, strong tea or coffee drinkers, as well as patients with rapid formation of bacterial and pigmented plaque. This method will be much more effective than using conventional abrasive whitening toothpastes - even the best ones rated above. It will work for you if you have an Oral-b electric toothbrush (or if you are ready to buy one).
The working head of an electric toothbrush is exactly like the head that a dentist uses to polish teeth. In standard mode, the nozzle makes not only more than 8,000 rotating movements per minute, but also at least 20,000 pulsating movements. The pulsations allow you to loosen plaque, which is then removed with rotational movements. Patients using Oral-B electric toothbrushes develop much less plaque or tartar on their teeth than when brushing with a regular manual toothbrush.
Electric brush Oral-B –
You will whiten your teeth much faster if you use an abrasive whitening toothpaste with an electric toothbrush. Those. you are essentially receiving a dentist's tool that the latter uses for professional oral hygiene in the dental office. But! There are several rules here. For example, if you use toothpaste with RDA 100, then you can safely use it 2 times a day for 1-2 months, using an electric brush in the standard “Daily Cleaning” mode (from 8000 to 10,000 rotational, + 20,000 pulsating movements).
If you use a more abrasive toothpaste with an RDA 120 along with an electric brush (for example, LACALUT White or PRESIDENT PROFI Smokers toothpastes), we would recommend using such toothpastes only once a day for 3-4 weeks, or 2 once a day, but not more than 2 weeks. This treatment will significantly increase the effectiveness of removing moderately pronounced pigmented plaque from teeth, but will not cope with strong pigmented plaque and densely attached mineralized plaque (small tartar).
The most effective way is
The most effective way is to use a professional teeth cleaning product that is used by a dentist during professional oral hygiene. The paste is called Detartrine Z, although there is also regular Detartrine (which is different in that it does not contain zircon granules and is therefore slightly less effective). You can buy it in online stores, sometimes you can even find it on Ozon. These are professional pastes that can not only perfectly remove pigment plaque, but also cope with even small tartar.
Polishing pastes of the “Detartrine” series (France) –
The volume of the paste is 45 g, and this amount will last you for at least a year or two, given that you won’t have to use it more than once every couple of months. Cost from 2000 to 3000 rubles. The following is very important: this professional teeth polishing paste should and can only be used at low rotation speeds of the electric toothbrush head (for example, in the “for sensitive teeth” or “polishing/whitening” modes). There are no pulsating movements in these modes. In addition, it is best to use the “Precision Clean” type of nozzles - see photo above.
Detartrine Z paste contains zircon grains, which very well remove even a pronounced layer of pigmented plaque, and even small hard dental deposits. This is an ideal option for smokers and those who drink strong tea or coffee. But if you have a very thick layer of pigmented plaque or massive tartar, then such home whitening will not help you and you will need to see a dentist in any case.
A less effective way is to use a regular whitening toothpaste with an abrasiveness of 150-200 RDA instead of this polishing paste (for example, “PRESIDENT Black” or “PRESIDENT PROFI PLUS White Plus”). This can be done no more than once a month and only at low speeds of an electric brush - either in the “For sensitive teeth” or “Polishing/whitening” mode. More information about how the procedure is carried out is in the article at the link below.

President toothpaste - reviews
oksanabalan
https://otzovik.com/review_4289308.html
Advantages:
- cleans teeth well
Flaws:
- Expensive
- not tasty
Today I would like to leave my review of PresiDENT Classic Daily Care and Protection toothpaste. I never paid attention to this paste and would definitely not buy it myself. I found out about her completely by accident. They gave it as a gift at a newly opened pharmacy for certain purchases. So to speak, as a lure. They gave me a sample as a gift.
The cost of this paste is rather high, varying between 200 and 300 rubles. It varies in different stores and pharmacies. But to be honest, I don’t think it’s worth the money.
This toothpaste is suitable for daily care and protects teeth from many negative influences. It contains fluorine-Xylitol, chamomile and sage. For some reason I thought that the combination of sage, chamomile and delicate mint should be pleasant. But I didn't like the taste of the pasta. And this is the main big minus.
The paste is pale green, closer to light green. It smells very nice, but only if you sniff the paste itself. The feeling in the mouth is not pleasant.
Firstly, it foams very poorly. I like pastes when they smell nice and your mouth is full of foam, there is no feeling that you are scraping your gums with a brush.
Secondly, it burns strongly, as if some kind of concentrated product. But, it should be noted that the sensations after cleaning are really cool. You run your tongue over your teeth, as if they had been polished. But there is no pleasant minty freshness. It just bakes everything in your mouth, as if you had suffered minor burns, the mint in the paste is so explosive and that’s all. Personally, this bothers me.
The fact that the paste cleanses the oral cavity well is great. But somehow he does it, firstly, in a barbaric way, and secondly, not tasty)
But this paste protects against caries and tartar. I can’t say anything about the claimed prevention of gum inflammation. The same goes for strengthening tooth enamel. Such things can only be diagnosed by a doctor who could feel the result BEFORE and AFTER with his professional eye.
It was written on the paste itself that the safe use of this toothpaste is guaranteed by the presence of amorphous and chemically inert silicon in it. This paste also does not contain sodium lauryl sulfate. This is probably good, but it doesn't tell me anything. One feels, of course, that the pasta is not just any kind, but serious. But I was much more pleased with the results from other pastes. Which satisfied me on more points, but for a much smaller amount. I keep repeating in my reviews about toothpastes that Doctor Proff Eco toothpaste brings me the greatest satisfaction, so if I have to choose, I will always choose the latter.
In general, of course, I can’t say, no, don’t buy this paste, while it’s okay, and even good, but for me it’s not the best and expensive, so I will recommend it, but I don’t want to buy it myself)

Advantages:
- Cleans teeth normally.
Flaws:
- There is nothing special about the pasta.
I received President toothpaste in a Make Me Up Box. I chose this product myself (the box was a construction set), I really wanted to try this paste.
I have the mini version, only 20 ml, but it lasted for a decent amount of time. For those interested, I have attached a photo of the composition.
Since even in the mini version the tube is sealed with foil, I assume that the full size is the same. This is a definite plus.
The paste itself is a pleasant mint color, with a minty smell and taste. I’ll make a reservation right away that it’s not with thermonuclear. The paste is thick, with a dense texture, and does not spread due to water.
As for the properties, President Classic toothpaste seemed very mediocre to me. Cleans teeth normally, refreshes briefly and only slightly. It also removes stains from tea or coffee, but regular Colgate (even the cheapest one for 40 rubles) does just as well. In general, I decided for myself that the game is not worth the candle and this President is no better than his cheaper brothers. I’m unlikely to purchase it purposefully, but I satisfied my interest and thanks to this brand.
I would recommend trying it, I can’t say anything bad, but there’s nothing special about this paste either and you shouldn’t expect anything beyond good from it either.

I bought a 50 ml tube for 132 rubles. At first I didn't like the taste and stopped using it. But since I bought it I had to use it. I won't buy this one again.

I have not found such pasta in Italy. Not sold anywhere.

Advantages:
- pleasant to the taste
Flaws:
- does not whiten tooth enamel
I am a heavy smoker, although I have been trying to quit, so far without success. Of course, smoking leaves a mark on my teeth in the form of an unpleasant yellow and sometimes brown plaque. I constantly struggle with it, visiting the dentist and using various remedies. I had experience using President toothpaste, about which I had never seen or heard reviews before, otherwise I wouldn’t have bought it, it’s too expensive, but that’s not even the point.
The President purchased toothpaste after detailed information received from the sales consultant. She described everything so rosy, and one of the best whitening toothpastes in the European Union, and a gentle abrasive substance used for enamel, and peppermint oil, and a toothbrush as a gift. In general, I was impressed and bought it.
The President used toothpaste every day before bed. Its consistency is good and thick. The taste is very pleasant. It doesn't foam as much as other toothpastes, but that's more of a plus than a minus. The packaging is the most ordinary, soft and economical. The lid is wide, so it can be placed vertically.
Now it’s better to tell you about the effect. I don’t know why I had to throw away so much money for the same results that I got from regular toothpaste. Yes, I felt freshness and cleanliness in the oral cavity, but the enamel remained yellowish. Regular baking soda, which I use to brush my teeth once a month, is much more effective for me. Of course, the enamel suffers and sensitivity increases, but the teeth are whiter for a while.
So, President toothpaste, the reviews of which seem to be positive, turned out to be an absolutely ordinary toothpaste for me without any superpowers. It does not whiten tooth enamel. Then why overpay? For beautiful packaging? It is much more effective to use a good toothbrush and use it correctly, spending not 30 seconds brushing your teeth, but the required few minutes.

Advantages:
- Composition, refreshing, not strong taste
- clears plaque.
Flaws:
- High price
- does not reduce tartar.
Hello!
My favorite toothpaste is colgate. But I had a chance to try a new paste that I came across in an allurbox. This is President classic pasta. It was paired with a mouthwash.
What I immediately noticed was the presence of xylitol in the composition. I remember there used to be an advertisement on TV for dental chewing gum with xylitol and carbamide. I don’t remember whether it was dirol or orbit. But xylitol was there as a means of stopping the development of caries. Therefore, I was very happy about the presence of this component in the composition. The composition also contains chamomile and sage extracts, peppermint oil, and lemon balm distillate. But I didn’t find sodium lauryl or sodium laureth sulfate in it. The composition of this paste is definitely better than that of colgate pastes.
Fluoridated paste. This should be taken into account by those who live in places with high levels of fluoride in water. The paste is a pleasant green color. Foams ok, but not as good as colgate. Its taste is minty, refreshing, but not harsh. The breath is refreshing and soft at the same time.
The paste turned out to be quite soft. It cleans teeth from plaque well. But it can’t cope with tartar, which I didn’t have much at that time. Still, I like the way Colgate cleans better. But this paste, it seems to me, is also suitable for sensitive gums.
Overall, I liked the pasta, especially its composition. If it weren't for its price, I would sometimes buy one like this.
